Charles Harlin Johnson, 63, Berthold, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND after a courageous battle with cancer.

Charlie was born June 14, 1946 in Minot, ND. He lived in the Berthold, ND area until he moved to the Wolverton, MN area. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1964. He married JoAnn Klein on April 23, 1965, and they were married for 19 years. He attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He worked as a Programmer for the North Dakota State Highway Dept. in Bismarck in 1966 to 1967. He then moved to Grand Forks, ND and worked as a Lead Programmer for UND in 1967. In 1968, he moved to Wahpeton, ND and was the Director of the Computer Center and a Data Processing Instructor for NDSSS. He also received an A.S. Degree in Data Processing from NDSSS and received a B.A. Degree in Management Science from Moorhead State University in 1973. In 1975, he moved to Fargo, ND and worked at Lutheran Hospitals & Homes Society and he created the 3rd Floor Data Processing Dept. for the Company. He moved to San Francisco in 1987 and worked as the Director of Information Systems for Catholic Healthcare West. In 1991, he moved to Spokane, WA and worked for Sacred Heart Medical Center until he retired in 1995. After retirement, he spent his summers at Ottertail Lake, MN and did some farming near Berthold, ND and spent his winters in Las Vegas. He married Linda Linster on September 20, 2008 in Berthold, ND.

He wrestled in high school and college, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing poker, traveling, and reading. He loved to be outdoors at the lake and on the farm because he appreciated nature.

He is survived by his wife Linda; daughter, Kari (Scott) Heintzman, Fargo, ND; sons, Wade Johnson, Fargo, ND, and Ryan Johnson, Carson City, NV; granddaughter, Haley Heintzman, Fargo, ND; mother, Leona Johnson, Moorhead, MN; sisters, Rebecca Bendikson, Granada Hills, CA, and Christine Johnson, Rowlett, TX; brother, Erick Johnson, Moorhead, MN; step-children, Kelly (Kim) Linster and their children Elene and Alex, Woodbury, MN, and Kory (Lezlie) Linster, and their daughter Raegan, Rapid City, SD, Kerry Linster, Atlanta, GA, and Kandra (Shawn) Ankney and their children Wyatt, Brayton, and Josie, Sheridan, WY.

Charlie was preceded in death by his birth father, Harold Brown and his adoptive father, Norman Johnson..

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church - Berthold.
Visitation: One hour prior to the prayer service and funeral mass.
Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the church .
