Obituary

Charles "Butch" Hagen, 71, Minot, formerly of Tioga and Bismarck, ND, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 in his home.

Charles Allan Hagen III was born August 11, 1948 to Charles and Henrietta (Vatsvog) Hagen Mickelson in Bottineau, North Dakota. He attended Upham Public school and graduated in 1966. Charles attended the University of North Dakota and studied laboratory science. While enrolled, he was an active member of the ROTC. After school, Charlie enlisted in the US Air Force and served his country from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1975. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of North Dakota in 1993.

Following his military service, Charlie worked for Tioga Medical Center as a lab technician. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Shirley Lundt. They were married on July 2, 1977 in Tioga North Dakota. In 1975, he started working at Amerada Hess in the lab. He worked his way up in the company and retired as senior regulatory specialist in 2011 with 36 years of service to the company. They moved to Bismarck in 2011 and to Minot in 2017.

Charlie loved to listen to live music, dance, tell stories, and visit with anyone he met. He helped with Rockin' the Hills for many years with his brother-in-law Fred. After retirement from Amerada Hess, Charlie worked for FEMA until he suffered a stroke. After his stroke, Charlie could be found tooling around the neighborhood and around town on his scooter. He will be truly missed for his humor, love of his family, and fun-loving attitude by all who shared in his life.

Charles is survived by his wife Shirley, Minot, ND; children Ashley (Eric) Kremer, Rugby, ND and Nikki (Kelly) Hase, Harvey, ND; grandchildren Kale and Brinlee Hase and Lela and Eli Kremer; brother Terry (Glenyce) Hagen, Hartington, NE; sisters Tangee Brunsell, Minot ND and Sonja Degner, South Milwaukee, WI along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
