Catherine (Clouse) Kostenko, 93, Minot, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in a Minot Healthcare Center.

Catherine was born April 1, 1924 on the family farm north of Foxholm, North Dakota the daughter of William and Julia (Haider) Clouse. She was the 12th of 13 children. She was raised and educated at Foxholm and graduated from Foxholm High School in 1942. She attended Minot Business Institute for a year and was employed with Hart Motor Express from 1944 until 1950, where she met her future husband, Harold Kostenko.

They were united in marriage on September 4, 1948 in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where she was proud to have stayed at home to raise their four children. After Harold retired in 1981, they loved traveling, going to 49 states and several Canadian provinces. Their favorite trips were to Maryland and Virginia to visit two of their daughters, Jane and Nancy. Harold and Catherine moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center in 2008. Catherine had continued to live there after Harold's death on June 13, 2010.

In 2009, Catherine learned how to make stocking caps on a hand-held loom. By November of 2017, she had reached her goal of making 4,000 of these caps. All the caps were donated to family, friends and charities. Many of these caps stayed in North Dakota, but some went to charities in Oregon and for premature babies in a neo-NCU ward in a North Carolina hospital.

Catherine was a longtime member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, letter writing, searching family history and was proud to have been a blood donor throughout the years.

Her loving family includes , children, Barbara (Sandy) Meiers, Stanley, ND, Susan (David) Baker, Minot, ND, Jane (Tyler Bell) Kostenko, California, MD, Nancy (Jess) Robinson, Fairfax, VA; 7 grandchildren to include: Keith Meiers, Brandon (Kristen) Meiers, Charlotte (John) Napurski, Deirdre (John Constantine) Baker, Christopher (Jennifer) Baker, Gil Robinson and Daniel Robinson; great grandchildren: Lincoln, Lydia, Calvin & Ivy Meiers and Noah Baker.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 59 years, Harold; brothers, William, Joseph, Paul, Martin, Frances & Bernard and sisters, Rosina, Theresia, Anna, Helen, Mary & Elizabeth.

Mass of Christian Burial : Saturday, January 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil Prayer service : Friday, January 5th at 7:30 p.m.in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Friday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Grace food pantry or the food pantry of your choice.
