Carrol A. Bakken, 88, Voltaire, ND and longtime Hendrickson Township farmer and rancher, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in a Minot hospital.
Carrol was born November 26, 1930 on the family farm in Hendrickson Township of McHenry County, North Dakota to Chris and Marie (Larson) Bakken. He graduated from Velva High School in 1948.
Carrol spent his entire life on the farm. He maintained a cattle and sheep operation for many years in addition to tilling the land for small grains.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sheelar on April 4, 1982. Together they saw many growing seasons and shared a beautiful life.
In addition to the daily tasks of the farm, Carrol served for many years as the Clerk/Treasurer of Hendrickson Township. He also found joy in collecting coins and stamps.
Carrol is survived by his wife Mary Ann; sisters-in-law Ella (Eugene) Schon and Maxine (Terry) Berg; brother-in-law Marvin Sheelar; nieces and nephews include Steve (Shelly) Schon, Chad (Lark) Schon, Sarah (Jarvis) Keney and Delilah (Rich) Wolf along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
Carrol was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Henry and Gena (Madesen) Sheelar and sister-in-law Linda Sheelar.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Velva Senior Citizens Center in Velva, ND from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
A private graveside service will be held at the Westgaard Cemetery, rural Voltaire, ND.
