Carole Kay Marshall, 82, Minot and formerly of rural Burlington died on Friday, September 2, 2016 in a Minot nursing home.
Carole was born on August 27, 1934 in Minot to Leo and Wilma (Wolfe) Anderson. She was reared and educated in Ross, Stanley, Vancouver, WA and Des Lacs. As a young adult she delivered newspapers, picked potatoes for the Becker family and was employed at the Des Lacs telephone office.
Carole married Clarence Marshall on April 10, 1951 in Minot. They made their home on a farm in Burlington Township of Ward County. Their first home on the farm was a two room bunkhouse that they lived in for four years with 3 kids until they built a house. Carole was a fulltime wife, mother and homemaker. Additionally, she assisted with farm work and was employed on a part-time basis at the Flower Box and Lowe's Floral and Garden Center. They moved into a condo in Minot in 1998 and then to Brentmoor in 2013.
Carole was a member of the Des Lacs Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women. Also, she was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and the North Hill Bowling League. She especially enjoyed gardening and canning while living on the farm as well as quilting, painting, sewing, knitting, reading, shopping (especially for shoes), bowling, playing cards (especially pinochle), crafts and traveling especially to Oregon, Wyoming and Virginia to visit family. She was an excellent cook, loved Jeopardy, collected Precious Moments and Depression Glass. However, her number one passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom she was very proud.
Carole's loving family includes her husband of 65 years: Clarence; children: William (MaryLou) Marshall of Minot, Michael (Pam) Marshall of Garrison, Linda (Harry) Hystad of rural Velva, Gregory (Margie) Marshall of Burlington and Lori (Steve) Selfors of rural Minot; grandchildren: Sarah (Aaron) Carr, Kristi Marshall, Stacey (David) Erickson, Jessica (Tyrell) Smestad, Matthew Hystad, Colin Marshall (Julie Gebhardt fianc and her son Carter), Katlin Marshall, Shawn Marshall and Marshall Selfors; great grandchildren: Viktoria, Haleigh and Caleb Carr, Natalie and Everett Smestad and Cadence Hystad; siblings: Dona Smedley of Flagstaff AZ, Denyce Walker of Lebanon OR, Dennis "Joe" Anderson of Creswell OR and Leona (Blaine) Janz of Mesa AZ; in-laws: Jeanette Marshall of Minot; and Robert Reiner of Burlington and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughters: Ariel and Mariah Hystad, sisters: Marlys Reiner and Arlene Collier, brothers-in-law: Arlie Collier, Bill Walker, Glenn Marshall and John Behm and sisters-in-law: Dodie Anderson and Ethel Behm.
Celebration of the Life of Carole Marshall: Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Des Lacs Methodist Church, Des Lacs Fire Department or Burlington Recreation.
