Carol Colleen Hayhurst, age 80 of Minot, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7th, 2016 in a Bismarck Hospital.
Carol was born on June 18, 1935 in Bottineau, ND to Erick and Martha (Stoll) Klebe. She was raised on the family farm between Gardena and Kramer, ND and was confirmed in July of 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gardena. Carol attended school in Gardena and graduated from Gardena High School in 1953. She also attended Minot State College where she graduated in 1955 with a 2 year teaching degree. Carol started her teaching career at the elementary school in Mohall, ND.
Carol married Myron Hayhurst on July 8th, 1956 in Bottineau. They made their home in Kenmare where their three children, Keven, Karla and Kelly were born. While in Kenmare, Carol taught elementary grades, head start and skills programs. The family moved to Minot in July of 1967. While the children were in school, Carol returned to teaching and taught Kindergarten at St. Paul's Lutheran Church from 1974-1982 and Jubilate Preschool at St. Marks' Lutheran Church from 1982-1989. She also tutored students in the Minot Public Schools for 12 years.
Carol was a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bottineau, Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare and has been a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Minot for 49 years where she was a member of bible study groups, circles and held offices in various LWML groups. She was also a member of the Minot Christian Women's Club, several homemaker groups, the local, state and national education associations and the Tri Sigma Sorority. She especially enjoyed spending time with family, reading, sewing, crafts, gardening and making blankets for the Orphan Grain Train.
Carol's loving family includes her husband of 59 years, Myron; children: Keven (Linda) Hayhurst of Grafton, WI, Karla Guttormson of Mandan and Kelly (Roxann) Hayhurst of Minot; grandchildren: Chad (Trista) Guttormson, Todd Guttormson, Emily (Guttormson) Pope, Amy (Brandon) Schwarz, Austin Hayhurst & Adam Hayhurst; great-grandchild Jaxston Pope; brother and sister-in-law Glenn & Kelly Klebe, nephews Kraig Klebe and Kory Klebe and several cousins.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
A Service of Celebration and Praise Marking the Entry of Carol Hayhurst into Christ's Heavenly Kingdom will be held Saturday, May 14th 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot.
Visitation: Friday from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Thomas Family Funeral Home in Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or St. Mark's Lutheran Church LWML.
