Obituary

Carlton Lloyd "Carl" Grosche, 85, Minot and former co-owner of Mackley Construction Company died on Friday, July 16, 2010 in a Minot healthcare center.

Carl was born on November 27, 1924 in Minot to Carl and Caroline (Frey) Grosche. He was reared and educated in Waterford Township of Ward County and attended rural schools in that area. He entered the U.S. Navy on January 26, 1944 and after receiving specialized training at the naval training center in Farragut, Idaho he served aboard the USS Hocking prior to his Honorable Discharge as Motor Machinist Mate Second Class on May 13, 1946 in Bremerton, Washington. Following his discharge he resided in Minneapolis, MN prior to gaining employment as a construction laborer on the Garrison Dam project. Carl married Jacquelyn Chilson on October 16, 1949 at Minot. Jacquelyn died on March 14, 1993.

Following the completion of the Garrison Dam they returned to Minot where he began his employment with Mackley Construction Company a career that lasted more than 30 years until his retirement in 1991. During this time he assisted in the construction and remodeling of numerous buildings including the following: Medical Arts Clinics, Ellisons, Walter's, St. Joseph's Hospital, Thomas Family Funeral Home, Empire Theatre, Westlie Motors, Woolworth's, CP Hotel, YMCA, and several Minot school buildings.

Carl was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church, Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge, American Legion, VFW and Carpenter's Union all in Minot. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends and was a talented craftsman.

Carl's loving family includes his children: Sue (John) Dokken and Scott (Darci) Grosche both of Minot and Mark Grosche (Stacy Roberts and her daughter Madison) of Newbury Park, CA, eight grandchildren: Timothy Dokken, Christopher (Elizabeth) Dokken, Lori Ihli, Travis, Tyler, Tanner, Tristen and Trevor Grosche; one great grandchild: Joseph Ihli; sister: Lois Ruth Earsley of Lubbock, TX; brothers: Wengert (Hazel) Grosche of Portland OR, and Donald (Sharon) Grosche of Minot; sister-in-law Delrane Grosche of Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Gloria Jean and brothers: Louis, Harry and Walter Grosche.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation:
Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Hockey Boosters or the Roosevelt Park in Minot.
