Obituary

Carl L. Jones, US Navy Veteran, 75, Minot, formerly of Pick City, ND, died Friday, April 15, 2016, in a Minot hospital.

Carl was born December 31, 1940, in Alton, IL to parents, Carl V. and Anna R. (Kleeman) Jones. He was raised and educated in Alton.

Carl entered the US Navy on October 12, 1959 serving his country as a boilerman technician aboard the John R. Craig, DD885. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1963.

Carl was united in marriage to Coleen M. (Lankford) Jones April 15, 1966, in Edwardsville, IL. They made their home in Rosewood Heights, IL until moving to Pick City, ND in 1983.

Carl was a certified machinist. He was employed at Olin Casting Plant in E. Alton, IL for many years until they moved to North Dakota, beginning his 16 tenure with Dakota Gasification Company of Beulah, ND, retiring in 1999. They moved to Minot in 2010.

He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors and John R. Craig Association. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Minot, where he was an active member of the congregation and dedicated volunteer of the soup kitchen. Carl and Coleen spent their retirement years traveling and always treasured the yearly trips with their grandchildren. In addition to traveling, Carl enjoyed gardening and spending time on the lake fishing. He will be missed for all of the qualities that made him a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a trusted brother, uncle and friend.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Coleen, Minot; children, Maryann (Ed) Vollmer, Minot, Brian (Denice) Jones, Lincoln, ND and Jeffrey (Judy Kay) Dalhaus, Steen, MS; grandchildren, Joshua (Kayla) Jones, Tiffany Jones, Jessica (Terrence) Taylor, Nathan Lee, Madison Lee, Cole Vollmer and Jalynn Vollmer; great-granddaughters, Hailey and Ashlynn Rath; brothers, Bob (Jackie) Jones, Alton, IL and John (Annette) Jones, Marquand, MO; sister-in-law, Myrna Jones, Godfrey, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Valerie Jones and brother, Ronald Jones.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the funeral service at the church.
