Betty was born June 25, 1931 near Deering, ND to Henry and Mary (Norsby) Carr. She spent her childhood on the prairie and graduated from Deering High School in 1949.

Betty was united in marriage to Omar Smith on September 27, 1950 in Crookston, MN. She was blessed with a family of four children. They primarily lived between the communities of Surrey and Granville during their working years until moving to Minot in 2008.

Betty worked several jobs throughout her marriage and also worked alongside Omar in their family businesses, The Ponderosa Bar in Granville, and years later, Broadway Beer Sales in Minot. Betty was a member of First Lutheran Church in Granville and its WELCA group.  She volunteered for Trinity Hospital for many years and was part of the Trinity Hospital Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed quilting, embroidery, gardening, playing cards and games, and traveling with her family. Betty was a prairie girl and she loved all that was nature. Animals, especially baby animals, pretty flowers, and birds were her favorites. She'd had several special pets throughout her life and was soft-hearted toward any animal being mistreated. She also loved going to craft sales, junk fests, and flea markets.  Her most favorite event to attend was the Hostfest as she was especially proud of her Norwegian heritage.

Omar passed away July 25, 2015. Betty remained in Minot and became a resident of Somerset Court in June of 2018. She loved her new home and found many new friends there.

Betty is survived by her daughters Paula (Troy) Rauschenberger, Minot and Cinda (Frank) Norberg, Bloomington, MN; grandchildren Tanner Rauschenberger and Connor, Garrett and Gabrielle Norberg along with numerous nieces and nephews, her brother-in-law Rodney Smith, his wife Mary Ann and sister-in-law Marva Deane Smith.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Omar, son Derald, daughter Karla, sister Helen Mueller and brothers Dale, Lynne and Paul Carr, and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on June 24 th 2021 (a day before what would have been her 90 th birthday) at 6:30 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, Granville.  A delayed streaming of the service will be available for viewing on Sunday, June 27, 2021 by accessing https://www.mtmsales.net/thomas
