Obituary

Betty Skinn Schweyen, 76, Minot, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 15, 2012 in a Phoenix, AZ, hospital.

Betty Ann was born on October 14, 1935 in Upham, ND, to Walter and Anna (Flath) Torno. She was reared and educated in Upham and graduated from Upham High School in 1953. She attended Minot State Teacher's College for two years and taught at a rural school near Upham for one year.

Betty was once married to Ronald Skinn. She moved to Minot in 1955 and was employed at Minot Builder's Supply for five years and Minot Woodworks for 26 years. She was also employed at First Lutheran Church as an administrative secretary for three years and at Trinity Nursing Home. She retired in 2006. Betty married Jim Schweyen on July 28, 2005. They made their home in Minot and enjoyed the most recent winter in Arizona.

Betty was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Minot Eagles and Moose Lodge Auxiliaries and was an avid bowler and enjoyed doing crafts, playing cards and darts. She also enjoyed baking, flower gardening and sewing. Betty loved to embroider and made many dish towels for her family and friends for Christmas gifts. She was an avid entertainer in her home which was always decorated to the hilt for every season. She particularly enjoyed Christmas and was lovingly called "Roast Beef Betty" by her son because of her delicious roast beef dinners.

Her loving family includes , husband, Jim Schweyen, Minot, children, Kari (Jim) Porter, Minot, Lorrie (Tim) Brogan, Seattle, WA, Kelly (Wes) Haugen, Surrey, and Mark Skinn, St. Paul, MN;Grandchildren, Ashley Campbell and Lacy Porter and her fianc, Jason Stewart; great-granddaughter, Aura Dawn; sisters, Eileen (Glenn) Hance, Minot & Marlys (Ruben) Bauer, Seattle, WA, brother, Delbert Torno, Las Vegas, NV; brother in law, Gordon Torgerson, Seattle, WA; Jim\'s children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and siblings; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Lillian.

Funeral service : Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: R osehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, April 22nd from Noon-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot
Memorials: In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Food Pantry or the donors choice.
