Betty Jane Grilley, 91, formerly of Upham died on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in a Bemidji, MN hospital.

Betty was born on January 13, 1926 in Upham, ND to Henry and Gertrude (Hoffmann) Frishman. She was reared in the Upham and Norwich areas and educated at rural schools. As a young adult she assisted farmers with household chores.

Betty married Howard Grilley on August 6, 1946 in South Dakota. They made their home in McHenry County prior to moving to a farm in Little Deep Township of McHenry County in 1949. In the early 1960's, Betty was employed at the Minot Air Force Base as a cook in the cafeteria for seven years. The family moved to Seattle in 1966 where Betty was employed as an electronics technician until her retirement in 1982. Betty and Howard returned to the farm in 1984 where Betty cared for her elderly parents until their deaths. Howard died on August 18, 2004. Betty had continued to make her home on the farm until she moved to the Bemidji area with her daughter.

Betty was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church -Minot where she volunteered in the church clothing store for twenty-two years. She especially enjoyed gardening and sharing the produce with the elderly, quilting, collecting bells, poems and antiques as well as canning and baking.

Betty's loving family includes her daughter: Gloria (James) Thompson of Guthrie, MN; grandchildren: Jamie (Jim) Eck, Heidi (Richard) Lewis and Tina (Dan) York; great grandchildren: Sarah and Daniel Eck, Daniel, Joseph, and Joshua Lewis, Andrea and Sophia Strange, and Christopher and Jesse York; great-great-grandchild: Zaybian Eck; siblings: Lyle (Janet) Frishman, Marvin (Arlene) Frishman, Shirley York, and Luella (Don) Smith and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: Elaine York, Irene Grilley and Bill Frishman and brothers-in-law: William York, Wesley Grilley, and Harry Osgood.

Celebration of the Life of Betty Grilley: Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seventh-day Adventist Church - Minot.
Interment will be in the Little Deep Cemetery - rural Upham.
Visitation: Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials, in lieu of plants and flowers, are preferred to Quiet Hour, Carter Reports, or 3ABN.
