Betty Lou Abelseth , 88, Minot passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on April 14, 1929 in Kenmare, ND to Charlie and Andrea (Olsen) St. Peter. She was reared and educated in Kenmare and Max and graduated from Max High School. As a young adult she was employed at the Ben Franklin Store and at Bergman's Restaurant in Kenmare where she met her future husband Fred Abelseth.

Betty married Fred Abelseth on April 17, 1953 in Kenmare. They lived briefly in Hettinger, Mott, Williston, Rugby and New Town before they settled in Minot in 1955. Betty was a baker of all occasion cakes for over twenty-five years and Fred was co-owner of Mackley Construction Company. She retired in 1985. For the past 12 years she had struggled with Parkinson's.

Betty was a member of First Lutheran Church - Minot where she sang in the church choir for 35 years and participated in a church circle. Also, she was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AV. Betty loved to play golf and watch it on TV. She also loved a good game of cards.

Betty's loving family includes her husband of almost 65 years Fred; children: Nancy (James) Sample of California City CA, Candace Abelseth of Minot, Marilyn (Alex) Poirier of Roatan Honduras and Wendy (Craig) Gust of Minot; grandchildren: Frederick Sample, Spencer Sample, Nicole (Kristopher) Brown, Makinzy Jo Northagen (Ivan) Lobo, Tara Nalty and Casey Northagen; great grandchildren: Justin, Nicholas, Machaela, Cora, Cory and Cody Sample; James and Kennadee Gagne and Violeta Jo Northagen Lobo; sister: Elvina Kostenko of Garrison and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Grandson: Joseph Nalty, sisters: Harriet Nelson, Odis Nore, Clarabelle Tronson and brothers: Woodrow and Merle St. Peter and son-in-law: Loren Northagen.

Celebration of the Life of Betty Abelseth : Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment : Sunset Memorial Gardens - Minot.
Visitation : Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or Caleb\'s Clubhouse, both of Minot.
