Berniece Ostdahl, 85, Minot and former owner of Sebby's Carpetarea died on Sunday, July 20, 2014 in a Minot assisted living facility.

Berniece was born on August 19, 1928 in Rugby, ND to Clarence and Agnes (Foss) Halvorson. She was reared on the family farm in Hurricane Lake Township of Benson County near York, graduated from Leeds High School in 1946 and attended Minot Business College where she received specialized training in bookkeeping. As a young adult she was employed by Anderson Beverage Company as a bookkeeper from 1948 1952.

Berniece married Lawrence Ostdahl on May 13, 1951 near York ND. They made their home in Minot where she was employed at Gaffaney's from 1969 until 1975 as a bookkeeper. She and her husband became the owners of Sebby's Carpetarea in 1970 and she served as corporate President and bookkeeper from 1983 1996. She retired in 1996 but had continued to make her home in Minot. Lawrence died on January 5, 1992. Most recently, Berniece had been a resident of the Wellington for the past six years and Berniece's family would like to compliment the staff of the Wellington for the excellent care their mother and grandmother received.

Berniece was a member of Christ Lutheran Church Minot and she especially enjoyed baking, knitting and spending time with her family. Also, she enjoyed spending time with her special friend Daryl Kramer which included time at "Bea's Corner" as Daryl called it.

Berniece's loving family includes her children: Sharon (Mike) Gifford of Burlington, Duane "Augie" Ostdahl, Daryl (Joni) Ostdahl and Shirley (Gene) Preskey all of Minot; grandchildren: Chad (Kim) Gifford, Michael (Gina) Gifford, Rebecca Gifford, Dereck (Amy) Ostdahl, Ashley Ostdahl (Matt Sondag), Brittany (Chris) Heft, Megan, Tanner and Myles Preskey; step grandchildren: Katie (Jason) Vollmer and Tanner Larson; great grandchildren: Christian, Camden and Keely Gifford; step great grandchildren: Mati and Walker Vollmer; in-laws: Edna Ostdahl, Leonard and Marge Ostdahl, Doug and Vivian Grinolds and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Berniece was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Celebration of the Life of Berniece Ostdahl: Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
