Obituary

Beatrice Lillian Dreyer, 86, of Minot died Wednesday in a Minot nursing home.

Beatrice was born December 17, 1920 on the family farm in Brander Township of Bottineau County near Maxbass, North Dakota to Herbert and Ida (Haarstad) Mobbs. She was reared and educated in that area and graduated as valedictorian from Brander Township High School in 1938. After receiving her teaching certificate from Minot State Teachers College in 1940, Beatrice taught at Kuroki, Wayne Township with Bottineau County Schools.

Beatrice married Kjerulf P. Dreyer on June 15, 1941 in Westhope, ND and they made their home in Minot for a short time. During WWII, they lived in several places throughout the U.S. while K.P. served in the US Army. Following K.P.'s honorable discharge they returned to Minot to rear their family. Beatrice resumed her education at Minot State Teachers College and received her B.S. degree in Special Education in 1963. She taught special education at Makoti and Minot schools. A majority of her teaching career in Minot was spent at Washington Elementary School. She also taught homebound students. In addition to teaching, she worked at the Education Center at Minot Air Force Base testing and counseling airmen, sold Avon products, and worked for a national company doing consumer surveys and research. In 1986, Beatrice and K.P. began spending winter months in Mesa, AZ, a practice Beatrice continued after K.P.'s death in 1990.

Beatrice was an active member of First Presbyterian Church Minot and its Ruth Circle. She also was an active member of PEO Chapter AL, a past president and a 62 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She had been a member of the Wise Women's Investment Club, Minot Retired Teachers Association and the Sons of Norway. She especially enjoyed reading, gardening, painting, ceramics and traveling.
