Barbara Jo "Barb" Dockter, 55, Minot, formerly of Surrey, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Barb was born September 12, 1959 at McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Myrna (Ruggles) Kircher. She moved with her family in 1970 to Surrey, where she was raised and graduated from Surrey High School in 1977 after excelling in Basketball and Track.
Barb continued her schooling at Minot State University in the Education program. She was once married to Ronald Aberle. She made her home in Surrey where she raised her three children. She nurtured her creative energies through various activities, such as cooking, canning, ceramics and gardening. She found inspiration from family and friends, tried many new hobbies, and gave inspiration and encouragement to others, especially her children, Angela, Ashley and Cameron. She started Country Meadows Greenhouse from her home and nurtured a love of plants and flowers in her young children. Together they spent many hours in the greenhouse, working the soil, planting the seeds, watering and appreciating God's wonderful creation all around them. The abundance of their efforts even brought new adventures as the young family sold flowers together at Farmer's Markets.
In 1995, Barb's passion for flowers led her to open Country Meadows Floral in Minot. Barb was united in marriage to Paul Dockter on July 27, 2002 in Minot. They have continued to make their home in Minot these past number of years. Barb and Paul completed one another. They enjoyed making each other laugh and living in the moment. Their devotion to each other was simply beautiful. She made many new friends during her career as a talented florist, and family and friends would have wonderful times working together at the flower shop during extra-busy times. Barb loved spending time with her young grandchildren. Of all the titles she held, her proudest was Grandma Barb.
Barb and Paul found a church home at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She made many new friends through her small group Bible Studies, helping with Vacation Bible School and she felt privileged to have the opportunity to teach Sunday School and share her faith with the students. Barb's creative energy was not limited to the flower shop. She loved to garden at home, try new recipes, and had seemingly endless craft projects in every room. With her illness came many beautiful uplifting cards of encouragement and support. From this she began making cards, envelopes and other paper crafts. God created a beautiful soul in Barb and we were blessed to share her. She will always be remembered as that groovy, hippie chick with moxie and grace.
