Obituary

Barbara Joan Bethel, 70, Minot, died Monday, May 2, 2016 in a Minot Hospital.

Barbara was born October 12, 1945 at Oxford, England the daughter of Harold and Doris (Johnson) Potter. She was raised at Oxford and educated there. She was employed for a short time in Ipswich, England prior to joining the Air Force in February of 1963 honorably serving her country in Cambridge and Germany until receiving her honorable discharge in 1967.

Barbara was united in marriage to John Bethel on August 30, 1969 in England. She had been employed by American Express Company before they moved to the United States in September of 1970. She met him while he was stationed in the United States Air Force. They made their home at Minot Air Force Base, Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and then returned to Minot in 1976.

Barbara was employed at the Minot Daily News from 1982 until 1992. She then worked for the Minot American Red Cross as a caseworker until retiring in 2002. John died December 24, 2009.

Barbara was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the LWML for several years.

Barbara enjoyed reading, sewing and traveling.

Her loving family includes, son, Karl (Shelia) Bethel of Minot; grandchildren, Charles Bethel, James & Devin Tomlinson and Larry Crevier, mother, Doris Potter, Bedford, England, sister, Patricia Higgins, Surrey, England.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father and husband, John.

Celebration of Life service: Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.

Private Interment: ND Veterans Cemetery, Rural Mandan.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service in the Church.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to Lutherans for Life or Our Savior Lutheran Church.
