Arthur Varloe, 91, Surrey, died Monday, December 5, 2022, in a Minot nursing home.
Arthur was born March 25, 1931, in Van Hook, North Dakota to Borger and Olga (Hveem) Varloe. He spent the years of his youth in Van Hook and completed his formal education.
Art enlisted into the US Navy on November 14, 1951. He served aboard the USS Pittsburgh and was accorded the Navy Occupation, China Service and National Defense Medals during his service as a fireman. He was honorably discharged on November 14, 1955.
Following his return to North Dakota, he enrolled at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he studied mechanics for two years. He took a job at Butler Machinery in Minot.
Art was united in marriage to Jeanette M. Bjorke on October 2, 1960 in Minot, where they lived until relocating to Surrey, ND in 1963. They were blessed with two children.
In 1975, Art took his heavy equipment mechanic skills to Struckness Construction serving the company until his retirement in 1992. Jeanette passed away on June 3, 2013.
Art was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Surrey and the Surrey Senior Citizens Group. He also belonged to the local mechanics union, Moose Lodge and Eagles Aerie, all Minot.
He enjoyed the outdoors and all of its offerings while hunting, fishing and camping. He was a talented wood worker and enjoyed restoring antique garden tractors in his spare time. Arthur will be forevered remembered for his kindness, talented hands and gentle soul.
Art's loving family includes his children Brenda (Wilton) McCoy, Surrey, ND and Brian Varloe, New Town, ND; grandchildren Farah (Jesse) Hystad, Alicia Simonson, Chris Simonson, Kendra (Tyler) Johnson-McLaurin and Chelsee (Robert) Dotson; great-grandchildren, Tilynn, Kianna, Tommy, Aubrianna, Monica, Elijah, Laramie and Corban along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanette, brother John Varloe and five sisters.
Celebration of Arthur Varloe's Life:
10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Hope Lutheran Church in Surrey, ND.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation:
Friday, December 9, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers and plants.
