Obituary

Arthur James Holtz, 88, Minot, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 in a Garrison nursing home.

Arthur was born October 1, 1931, in Minot, ND to Arthur H. and Mabel (Forthun) Holtz. He spent his youth in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1949.

Arthur enlisted into the US Navy and entered active duty service on December 29, 1950. He was accorded the National Defense, United Nations and Korean Service Medals during his honorable service. He was discharged on September 29, 1954.

Arthur returned home to Minot and started his position at I. Keating as a carpet/flooring installer. He worked in the flooring industry for the next 60 years until his retirement in 2012. Arthur became a resident of the Benedictine Living Center in July 2018. He was grateful for all of the caregivers who showed kindness in their care over the past couple of years.

Arthur attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot and was a member of the Minot American Legion. He was an accomplished bowling champion who received national recognition and numerous awards during his career. He was inducted into the ND Bowling Hall of Fame. Arthur loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and a little sunshine. He shared his life with many canine companions over the years and will be missed deeply by his family for his quick wit, one-liners and love of his nieces and nephews.

Arthur is survived by his siblings Richard (Arlyce) Holtz, Minot and Dawn Holtz, of New Mexico along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Shirley Hoff, Lois Wimer and Donna Setliff, brother Larry Holtz and nephews Barry Hoff and Bradley Holtz.

Celebration of Arthur's Life: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation: Sunday, June 28, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to the Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation.
