Obituary

Arnold Harry Erber , 89, rural Glenburn, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in his home.

Arnold was born March 20, 1924 in Tatman Township of Ward County, North Dakota, the son of Henry and Gladys (Loveland) Erber. He was raised and educated in Tatman Township, where he attended country schools and assisted with the operation of the family farm.

Arnold began farming on his own at the age of 18, and continued farming throughout the years, raising dairy cattle and growing small grains. He was united in marriage to Jane Whitson on April 8, 1945 at Minot. They continued to make their home on the family farm in Tatman Township and he was drafted into the US Army on June 14, 1945. He honorably served his country until July 15, 1946. After his military service, he returned to North Dakota and continued farming until 1989, when they retired. They were members of the Good Sam Club and traveled to many different states and spent many winters in Tucson and Mesa, Arizona.

Arnold was a lifetime member of Lynch Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Glenburn, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Glenburn American Legion and served on the Tatman Township Board for 17 years. He was also a member of the Glenburn Senior Citizens.

Arnold enjoyed playing pinochle, working in his shop and around the home, along with fishing. He had made a number of spinners and bells. He and Jane enjoyed traveling.

Arnolds' loving family includes , wife of 68 years, Jane Erber; children,Dennis (Karen) Erber, Glenburn, Katherine (Roger) Krienke, Lester Prairie, MN, Carol Matthews, Centerview, MO; daughter in law, Joyce Erber, Cheyenne, WY; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, a number of step-great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys (John) Eichelberg, Tucson, AZ, brother, Glenn (Lois) Erber, Jackson, MI; sisters-in-law, Sharyl Erber, Oriska, ND and Jan Whitson, Mt. Vernon, WA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Darrel and John; sisters, Inez (Roger) Brown & Florence (Lytle) Cook and brothers, Henry, Jr, and Norman and Jane's siblings who thought of Arnold as a brother, Dale Whitson & Jean Schmidt.

Funeral service : Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Lynch Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Glenburn (one half-mile north of Minot Air Force Base)
Interment: Lynch Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Glenburn.
Visitation: Friday, February 21, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Lynch Immanuel Church, Trinity Hospice or Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.
