Arlene M. Weidler , 86, Minot and formerly of Balfour, ND died Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Trinity Hospital of Minot, ND.
Arlene was born May 21, 1934 in Fargo, ND, one of nine children to August and Bertha (Mock) Arndt. She called Balfour home during her youth and graduated from Balfour High School in 1952. She was very active in sports and prided herself on scoring 45 points in one Balfour Hornet girl's basketball game.
Arlene was united in marriage to Lyle Weidler on September 15, 1953 in Balfour, where they would make their home. They owned and operated Pete's Standard and Cafe for 44 years. Arlene was known for her homemade pies and delicious meals that she served daily at the cafe. Arlene was active in many Balfour community affairs. She was the Balfour Tax Assessor in the 1970's, was a caretaker and secretary for the Balfour Cemetery Association, member of the Homemakers Club, helped to organize the Balfour City Centennial and Jubilee, served as secretary/treasurer for the Balfour Alumni Association and served on several committees for school reunions. Lyle and Arlene retired in 1989.
Lyle died in 2003. Arlene moved to Minot in 2006 and currently resided at Edgewood Senior Living. Arlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. She was a past member of the Balfour Lutheran Church prior to its closing, where she was active in the women's group and teaching Sunday School.
Arlene enjoyed traveling to warm destinations, watching the Minnesota Twins, attending local High School sporting events, golfing, reading and valued time spent in her garden. She will be missed by all who shared in her blessed life. Arlene was a wonderful mother and grandmother that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. She believed in the power of Prayer. After her death from Covid-19 her family is urging others to remain strong in prayers and place their trust and faith in God since there is hope in the midst of suffering. "Hope in the Lord and keep his way." Psalm 37:34.
Arlene is survived by her daughters Nancy (Dwight) Kandt, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Tamara (Ronald) McNeiley, Kenmare, ND. Grandchildren: Quinten (Tiffany) Kandt, Cedar Rapids, IA ; Aaron (Meaghan) Kandt, Ankeny,IA ; Jaden McNeiley and Abigail McNeiley, Kenmare, ND. Great-Grandchildren: Finley and Frankie Kandt, Cedar Rapids,IA; Hadley and Paxton Kandt, Ankeny, IA. Siblings: Rueben (Wanyce) Arndt, Garrison, ND; Kenneth Arndt, Minot,ND; Betty Werre, Minot,ND; Melvin (Grace) Arndt, Harvey, ND, Larry (Arlene) Mercedes,TX; Ronald (Laurel) Arndt, Surrey, ND and Joey Arndt, Champaign, IL along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle, brother Edwin Arndt and brother in law Jim Werre.
A Celebration of Arlene's Life will be held this summer due to Covid restrictions.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband Lyle in the Balfour Cemetery, Balfour, ND.
