Obituary

Ann Pandora Thom , 89, Velva, formerly of Minot, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in a Velva Assisted Living Facility.

Ann was born on February 13, 1924 at Norwich, North Dakota the youngest of nine children to Peder and Petrina (Sollid) Moen. She was raised on the family farm near Norwich and attended rural schools in that area. She graduated from Minot High School and attended business school in Minot. She was employed for the Farm Security Administration at Fort Benton, Montana and later for the McHenry County Farmers Home Administration at Rugby and Towner. She met Clifford Thom before he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After the war, Ann and Clifford were married on September 14, 1947 at her home church, Stenkjaer Lutheran in Simcoe by Pastor Norman Neilsen. For five years they lived in Minot, where their first two children, Curtis and David were born. In the spring of 1953, they moved to a farm three miles from where she was raised. It was there that daughter, Eileen and youngest son, Donald were born. They purchased the farm in the early 1960's and farmed there until retiring in 1987.

They moved back to Minot where they lived in the Green Acres addition for 25 years. During those years, they enjoyed traveling throughout the US and were active with several community groups. They moved to the Valley View Manor, Velva in November of 2012. Ann and Clifford have enjoyed their close knit growing family and ever so much more in theses last few years.

Ann was a lifetime member of Stenkjaer Lutheran Church until it completed it's mission and was closed in at the end of December, 2011. She was also active in many community and school organizations, Church Ladies groups, Moose Lodge and Farmer's Union. She was an excellent cook and homemaker along with tending to her flower garden, quilting, crocheting and caring for her precious Persian cats, Josie and Charlie. Ann and Clifford had recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary with family. Throughout her life, she was a faithful helper to her mother, oldest brother, Elmer and sisters, Alice, Jeanne and Ingeborg.

Ann is survived by her husband, Clifford Thom, Velva; children, Curtis Thom, Minot, David (Bonnie) Thom, Granville, Eileen (Bryan) Giese, Mandan, Donald (Marsha) Thom, Minot; grandchildren, Megan (Kyle) Krueger, Pequot Lakes, MN, Nolan Thom, Norwich, Kendra (Nathan) Faa, Norwich, Christopher (Lisa) Giese, Fargo, Rachelle (Brad) Putnam, Stillwater, MN and Kimberly (Steven) Bryan, Durham, N.C.; Eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elmer, Norman and Harold; sisters, Thelma, Alice, Jeanne, Ingeborg and Palma.

Funeral service: Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.
Interment: Stenkjaer Lutheran Cemetery, Simcoe, ND.
Visitation : Friday, November 29th from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials : In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefer memorials to the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva or the Stenkjaer Lutheran Cemetery Association.
