Obituary

Alvina Perekrestenko, 92, Minot, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in a Velva nursing home.

Alvina was born April 20, 1921 in Rhoads Township, near Grassy Butte, ND to Efim and Mathilda (Poleshook) Pojorlie. She was raised on the family farm near Grassy Butte and attended country school. She received her high school diploma by studying through correspondence and moved on to attend college at Minot State University.

Alvina was united in marriage to George Perekrestenko in Manning, ND on October 18, 1937. They made their living and home on the Perekrestenko family farm located near Butte, raising small grains, dairy cattle and poultry.

They moved to Minot in 1959. They continued to operate the farm and opened and adult foster care center in their home in 1970. They retired from farming in 1977 and operated their home business until 1992, when George's heath failed. George passed away on January 13, 1998.

Alvina was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the City Art League in Minot. She became a resident of the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva in November of 2010. She will be missed by all who shared in her life.

Her loving family includes sons, Duane and wife Christine Perekrestenko of Germany and Merel Perekrestenko of Minot; grandchildren, Michael Perekrestenko and wife Vivien, Tanja Frick and husband Andreas and Shawn Perekrestenko and wife Edith; great-grandchildren, Vivian, Luca, Amelie and Lilian; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Kohanes, Elsie Pojorlie, Pauline Pojorlie and Katy Pojorlie and brothers, Pete, Dan, Nick and John Pojorlie and son Leroy.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
