Alvin Beck , 86, Minot, died peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2024, in his home under the care of hospice with family at his side.

Alvin was born on September 4, 1937 in Minot to Emanuel and Katherine (Heizelman) Beck.  He was raised and educated in Minot.  Alvin enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard in September of 1954 and he served one year of active duty prior to his honorable discharge on August 31, 1963.

Alvin married Claire Layman on April 4, 1964 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot prior to moving to a hobby farm northwest of Sawyer in 1973 where they had a few cattle and various animals over the years. They sold the farm and returned to Minot in 1985. Alvin was a forty-six year employee of the Minot Daily News and retired in 2000 as a pressman.

Alvin attended the First Baptist Church - Minot and was a former member of the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association) and Minot Gun Club.

He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. Also, he enjoyed spending time outside, even shoveling snow!  But most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was even fortunate enough to have held his 1 day old great grandson 3 days prior to his death.

Alvin's loving family includes his wife of 60 years: Claire; daughters: Carrie (Daryl) Heizelman and Sheila (Frank) Jacobs all of Minot and Shirley (Cody) Hartung of Surrey; grandchildren: Arielle (Austin) Thornton of Ohio, Twyla (Cody) Dishon of Minot, Diatra Heizelman of Minot, Isaac Heizelman of Grand Forks, Nathaniel and Leigha Jacobs of Minot, great grandchildren: Owen, Camden, Aubri, Molly, Savanna, Lilyana, Elijah and Beau; nephew: Mark (DelRae) Pope of California and their children Matthew, Amanda, and Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Delores (Leonard) Pope and JoAnne (Bill) Ramey.

Celebration of the Life of Alvin Beck: June 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Minot. To view a livestream of the service access https://www.fbcminot.org/watch
Private Interment will be held at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Friday May 31, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the First Baptist Church Car Care Clinic or Samaritan's Purse.
