Alvin Maurice Abelstad, 91, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Trinity Hospital surrounded by his family.

Alvin was born October 17, 1928 in Minot, ND to Eric and Mabel (Kamp) Abelstad. He grew up on the farm and attended rural schools prior to graduating from Minot High School in 1946. Following high school, Alvin continued the family farming tradition in Sundre Township on his parent's farmstead located Southeast of Minot.

Alvin was united in marriage to Anna Bingen on October 8, 1950 in Minot. They spent the next 64 years together until Anna's death in 2014. They made their home on the farmstead, where they raised cattle and grain. In addition to farming, Alvin also worked at Sweetheart Bakery and at the Minot Daily News, retiring in 1992. He continued farming until 1995. They moved from the farm to Minot in 1981.

Alvin was a member of Our Redeemers Church, Minot. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie and 4 H Club. He served on the Sundre Township Board, where he held various offices and also belonged to the Good Sam RV Club for many years.

Alvin and Anna taught square dancing for 16 years and loved to travel. He also found time to hunt and fish along with a few games of bowling in his active years. Alvin was a man of honor, integrity, unconditional love and forgiveness, which he instilled in his family. But above all, he was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. For the last 6 years he lived at the View. There, he loved and was loved by the staff and residents including a special friend, Arleen Becker.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Daryl(Brenda) Abelstad of Colorado Springs, CO, Susan Thomas of Minot and Nancy (Carlos) Cisneros of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren Stacey (Larry) Dibble, Donald (Lisa) Abelstad, Tonya (Mike) Harden, Jeremy (Misty) Mahany, Brandi (Robin) Mostad, Kristen (Mark) Tolsma, and Marissa (Jason) Pressler, sister Arlene Weigel of Minot along with several nieces and nephews. He was known as Peapod by his 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son Kim.

Public Celebration of the Life of Alvin Abelstad: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Our Redeemers Church - Minot.

Public Interment: 12:15 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Public Visitation: Friday, July 24, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Radio Fund at Our Redeemers Church, Minot.
