Obituary

Alta Larson, 101, Minot and formerly of Des Lacs died on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in a Minot hospital.

Alta Leota Larson was born on March 1, 1917 on the family farm south of Des Lacs, ND to Roy and Grace (Williams) Shaffer.  She was reared on the family farm and educated at rural schools prior to graduating from Des Lacs High School.  As a young adult she was employed at Montgomery Ward Department Store in Minot.

Alta married Chester Lenton on August 15, 1939 in the Des Lacs United Methodist Church. They made their home on a farm near Deering and in Minot.  They were the proud parents of Frank, Delores and Cheryl.  Chester died on July 24, 1955 and Alta returned to work at Montgomery Wards.

Alta married Oscar G. Larson on June 8, 1958 at Rose Valley Lutheran Church - rural Des Lacs.  They made their home in Des Lacs.  They were the proud parents of Renae.   Alta and Oscar moved to Minot in 1988 and had spent the winter months in Arizona for many years.  Oscar died on June 5, 1999.  Alta moved to the Milton Young Towers in 2003 where she lived independently until her death.

Alta was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Minot, the Des Lacs Homemakers and a birthday club.  She especially enjoyed dancing, card playing, bowling and yardwork.  Alta's days at the Milton Young Towers were filled with potlucks, ice cream socials, walking, and exercise classes, but she was most fulfilled by the time spent with her family!  She was an amazing mother and grandmother and will be remembered for the endless supply of snacks during visits, her beautiful smile, the twinkle in her eyes and her fun-loving spirit.

Alta's loving family includes her children:  Cheryl Lenton and Renae (Kevin) Yale all of Minot; son-in-law, Joe Anderson, Creswell, Oregon; grandchildren:  Sean and Megan Lenton, Dean (Vicki) Anderson, Brad (Chantel) Anderson, Amanda (Jay) Peterson, Katie (Michael) Hanson, Erin (Matt) Sund, Matt Yale and Daniel Yale;  great grandchildren:  Kirsten (Spenser) Murray, Emily Anderson, Haley, Abbie, Jack, Max and Charlotte Anderson; Marrin, Teague and Brolin Peterson; Mason and Chandler Hanson and Whitney and Lauren Sund; sister:  Dorothy Teets of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, children:  Frank Lenton and Delores Anderson, granddaughter: Shelly Jo Anderson; sisters:  Iona Wharton and Gladys Shaffer and brothers-in-law: Raymond Teets and Richard Wharton.
