Almira Irene Hoffer , 84, Ryder and longtime co-owner of the Ryder Caf, died on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in her home.
Almira was born on February 9, 1930 in Deering, ND to Oscar and Selma (Mogard) Loraas. She was reared and educated in Deering.
Almira married Henry "Hank" Hoffer on December 3, 1947 in Minot. They made their home in Velva prior to moving to Ryder in 1948 where they raised their family. Almira and her business partner, Gary Hagen, owned and operated the Ryder Caf for many years. She enjoyed being a part of the community and serving the people of the Ryder area and recently said if she was 20 years younger she would do it again. Hank died on June 6, 1999, but Almira continued to reside in Ryder.
Almira was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church - Ryder and a local dart league. One of the highlights of her life was an Alaskan cruise with her girlfriends. She often reminisced about her travels. Her hobbies included crocheting, needlepoint and watching NASCAR Racing except for Jeff "Squeaky" Gordon. However, her number one passion was her family. She looked forward to the times when her family would visit. She very much loved her children and grandchildren and will truly be missed.
Almira's loving family includes her children: Connie Earsley of Tacoma, WA, Dale "Smokey" (Kathy) Hoffer of Ryder and Danny (Ellen) Hoffer of Milpitas, CA; sister, Janet Kasper, Phoenix, AZ; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Almira was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Stella Herslip and brother: Tilford Loraas.
