Alma Valgren, 96, Minot, died Thursday, May 30, 2019 in a Minot adult foster care home.

Alma was born November 11, 1922 to Emil and Martha (Bartz) Grueneberg in Minot, ND. She grew up and attended school in Burt Township of Ward County and Minot High School. Alma was once married to Jesse New, they were blessed with two children, Harold and Yvonne.

Alma was united in marriage to Vernon Valgren on October 7, 1965 in Minot. They made their home in California and Utah after their marriage, where they worked as hotel managers. Alma also earned her certification as a pet groomer while in California. They returned to Minot in 1977 and established Pat's Auto Repair and Topper Sales. They operated the business until 1989. Alma also was self-employed as a pet groomer until she retired in 1994.

Vernon passed away on August 17, 1990. Alma continued to live in Minot and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and a past member of Peace Lutheran in Burlington. She was also a charter member of the Friendly Senior Citizens of Burlington. She enjoyed reading, spending time in the garden and created many works crocheting.

Alma is survived by children Yvonne (W. Allen) Vise, Burlington and Harold New, West Fargo, ND and special caregivers, Unsong Ringuette and and Chun Matus, both of Minot.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Margaret New and brothers Bennie, Robert, Leo and Arnie Grueneberg.

Graveside Service: 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation will be one hour prior to the graveside service at the Thomas Family Funeral Home on Tuesday.
