Obituary

Allen D. Whillock, 80, Kenmare, died Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at the Kenmare Community Hospital.

Allen was born October 16, 1933, in Lostwood, North Dakota, a son of Fred and Martha (Charnetzski) Whillock.

He grew up on the farm and received his education near Coulee, ND. Allen assisted on the family farmstead as a young adult and was employed as a mechanic at Main Motors in Minot.

Allen's love of agriculture led him back home to the farm, where he raised cattle and small grains.

Allen was joined in marriage to Marlys Ann Washburn on October 12, 1952, in Keene, ND. The family farm would be home for the next 46 years. This time was blessed with the birth of three sons and the foster parenting of 29 children. They moved into Kenmare in 1998.

In addition to the daily toil of the farm and family, they enjoyed time in the garden and took time to travel over the years. Allen was also fond of woodworking and loved the rodeos.

Marlys entered her heavenly home on June 15, 2008. Allen continued to reside in Kenmare. In 2011, he became a resident of the Kenmare Community Hospital, where he received wonderful care and was treated like family by their staff.

Allen served on the Lowland Township Board, FU Oil Board of Kenmare, Trustee of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Member of the Rolling Hill's Saddle Club and as a 4-H leader.

Allen will be missed for all the qualities that a husband, father, grandfather, brother and farmer of his generation possesses, but will be remembered for the legacy he left as an example to follow.

Allen's loving family includes, his sons, Jeffrey (Barbara) Whillock, Kenmare, ND, William (Judith) Whillock, Apple Valley, MN and Randy (Connie) Whillock, Donnybrook, ND; grandchildren, Dusty (Jessica) Whillock, Tami (John) Ware and Katherine (Adam) Herndon; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Lindsey and Kendra Ware and Kiley Whillock; sister, Pearl Guinn, Minot; several nieces and nephews, many foster children and numerous cousins.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlys, and brother-in-law Clayton Guinn.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND.
Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, North Dakota.
