Allen Eugene Drady , 94, Bismarck, formerly of Minot and longtime South Prairie area farmer died on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his daughter's residence in Bismarck.
Allen was born on April 9, 1924 in Drady, ND to Thomas and Alida (Redland) Drady. He was raised on the family farm in Burt Township of Ward County southwest of Minot and attended rural schools. As a young adult he assisted his parents with the operation of the farm prior to assuming ownership of the farm.
Allen was inducted into the U.S. Army on December 14, 1944 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and attained the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Army of Occupation (Japan) Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge on April 20, 1946 at Fort Lewis, WA and returned to the family farm.
Allen married the love of his life, Darlaine Rockvoy, on September 7, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot where Allen raised wheat and other small grains on the Drady family farm. Throughout the years, he also worked at Gulf Oil, Nybakken Body Shop, and Jerome's Body Shop during the winter months. Allen and Darlaine were blessed with three children; Mark, Lori, and John, along with five wonderful grandchildren. Following his retirement in 1989, they spent the winter months in Arizona and Texas. Allen and Darlaine moved to Touchmark Assisted Living Center in Bismarck in 2014. Darlaine died on August 11, 2015.
Allen was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Minot, American Legion Post #26, The World War II Last Man's Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, the Eagles Aerie, and Minot Farmer's Union Elevator. He especially enjoyed traveling, doing auto body repair work, talking politics with his friends, and attending his grandchildren's sports and activities. He enjoyed many years of watching Minot High Hockey, UND Sioux Hockey, and Minnesota Twins baseball. He was known for his great sense of humor and highly enjoyed joking around with the Touchmark staff while he was there. He was affectionately known as the "Candyman" at Touchmark for his love of candy and could often be seen riding around Touchmark on his electric scooter nicknamed "Red Rover". To all who knew him, he was a man of great integrity and character. A man whose actions quietly spoke of his faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
Allen's loving family includes his children: Lori (Tom) Spaulding of Bismarck and John (Julie) Drady of Minot; daughter-in-law: Tori Drady of Aurora CO and grandchildren: Drew, Bailey, Dillon, Jessica and Joshua.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son: Mark and siblings: John Drady and Dorothy Flom.
Funeral Service: Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery - rural Minot.
