Allan Orville Hildahl, 84, Minot was former owner and operator of Hildahl Painting and Decorating. He died on Thursday, October 18, 2007 in his home after a lengthy battle with emphysema.
Allan was born on November 1, 1922 in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Minor and Clara Hildahl. He was reared and educated in Estevan, and graduated in 1939 from Estevan High School. As a young adult, Allan was employed in Estevan prior to serving in the Canadian Army from 1941 to 1942. Following his discharge, he returned to Estevan where he operated Hildahl Painting from 1942 to 1948
Allan married Alma Thompson on July 3, 1946 in Plentywood, MT. They made their home in Estevan prior to moving to Inglewood, California. Allan was employed there as a painter in Hollywood, CA while Alma was a teacher. They moved to Minot in 1951 where Allan established Hildahl Painting and Decorating. His business was involved in the construction of several projects in Minot, including the painting of numerous public schools and churches, the All Seasons Arena, MSU Dome, Young and Henry Towers, and Magic City Campus. He retired in 1981, but continued to reside in Minot during the summer months, and in Sun City West, Arizona during the winter. They resided at 1010 5th St. NE for 47 years, prior to moving to The View in 2006.
Allan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he once served as trustee. He was also a member and past president of both the Minot Country Club and the Minot Curling Club. He was chairman of several state and international golf tournaments at the Minot Country Club and numerous bonspiels at the Minot Curling Club. A curling highlight was scoring an "eight ender" , and a golf highlight was getting two holes-in-one.
Allan was also one of the founders of the ND Western Charity Pro-Am golf tournament
His loving family includes his wife of 61 years, Alma; sons Mark (Linda) Hildahl of Minot and Dean (Lee Ann) Hildahl of Naples, Florida; grandchildren: Jennifer and Michael of Minot; Matthew and Sam of Naples, Fla.; Sisters: Alice Lawrence of Calgary, AB; Donna (Larry) Schnell of Escondido, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, sister Olive Baldwin and brothers Donald and Clarence Hildahl.
Services
are at 11:00am, Friday October 26 at the First Presbyterian Church in Minot.
Visitation
at Thomas Funeral Home on Thursday, October 25 from 2:00pm to 7:00pm.
Memorials
are preferred to Minot Curling Club, 1st Presbyterian Church building fund, or Norsk Hostfest Guardian Foundation.
