Alice JoAnn (Hackett) Wickman, 78, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 surrounded by family after a short stay at Trinity Nursing Home. Alice was diagnosed with cancer when she was 77 years old and fought an up-hill battle every day for the past year against that disease.
Alice was the daughter of Bertha and Walter Hackett, born in Centerville, South Dakota. The Hacketts moved to Glenburn in 1945 where Alice grew up and graduated from Glenburn High School in 1954.
Alice met Gerald Wickman in 1955 while working in the plumbing department at Sears in Minot. After a short, whirlwind courtship, they were married 3 months later on March 18, 1956. They resided on their farm in Burt Township, rural Burlington all 57 years of marriage where they raised their 5 children; Eric, Todd, Chris, Theresa and Ben. Alice was a dedicated farm wife and mother who led a very busy life.
Some of Alice's hobbies included knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She was an excellent cook and baker and was well known for her homemade buns and pink frosted sugar cookies. Alice worked at Riddles Jewelry Store for many years. She loved to play cards and in her later years, played Pinochle and Canasta online with friends and family. Alice had a special relationship with all of her grandchildren, but most recently spent many enjoyable hours with her youngest granddaughter Emma. She will be greatly missed by all, including the family cat, Sam, who sits diligently in her chair waiting for her return.
Alice is survived by her husband Gerald, all five children; Eric, Todd (Rhonda), Chris (Paula), Theresa Knutson (Jim) and Ben (Kellie); 7 grandchildren Jacob, Jessica Fitzpatrick (Mark), Jed, Brandie Christians (Nathan), Samantha (Jason), Cole and Emma; one great grandson Canton and a great granddaughter, Kenlee, due in May; brothers Marvin (Inez) and Roger (Elaine) Hackett, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her aunts Vivian Wenzel and Ora Mae Hackett.
Blessedly she is only preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Walter Hackett.
