Alice Herman, 81, Minot, died on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in a Bismarck hospital.

Alice was born November 23, 1928, to Raymond and Martha (Panesky) Zientek in Cleveland, OH, where she was raised and educated.

As a young adult, she moved to California to pursue her life interests. Alice was once united in marriage to Lars Oynes on April 16, 1949, in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in North Dakota, where they were blessed with the births of four children. Alice worked a variety of jobs during her professional years as a secretary and in retail sales.

Alice was united in marriage to Merle Herman on October 29, 1976 in Minot, ND. They continued to reside in Minot through their retirement years, raising their growing families to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Merle passed away in February of 2000. She became a resident of Edgewood Vista in Minot in July of 2008.

She shared life interests in fishing and camping with Merle and was known to be quite a "card shark" even in her later years. Alice enjoyed visits with all of her family, but also shared active memberships to the Am Vets Club, Polkateers and Moose Lodge in Minot. She will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.

She is survived by her children, Barbara (Peder) Rice, Minot, ND, Virginia "Ginny" (Jerald) Gullickson, Minot, ND, Susan (Jim) Haney, Yakima, WA, and Robert Oynes, Toston, MT; grandchildren, Amanda (Thad) Manuwal, Lesley, Peder M. and Carter Rice, Dawn (Skip) Locken, Danielle Nichols, Sean Haney and Brandon and Brittany Gullickson; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Dustin, Dylan, Leighton, Joey, Makenna, Bennett, Morgan, Ashley, Teddy, Jalina and Tyler; step-daughters, Diana (Ray) Strachen and Janet Schiele, both of Karlsruhe, ND; step-granddaughter, Emily Schiele; sister, Joanne Patton, Cleveland, OH; sisters-in-law, Ruth Drader, Harbor City, CA and Eileen Pixler, Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merle, great-granddaughter, Finn, sister, Rae Kulikowski, brothers, Albert and Edmond Zientek, sister-in-law, Elaine Freeman and brother-in-law, Charles Herman.

Funeral service: Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND;
Interment: Union Cemetery, Towner, ND;
Visitation: Friday, August 6, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot;
