Obituary

Alice Pearl (Basom) Carr , 92, Minot, died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Trinity Hospital after suffering a fall in her home.

Alice was born November 20, 1925 at home as the oldest child of Odie and Helen (Hermanson) Basom. She was raised on the family farm near Arpan Flats, SD with her sisters and brothers. She attended country school and graduated from high school in Nisland. Alice went on to attend and graduate from St. John's Catholic School of Nursing in 1947 in Rapid City, SD where she met Junior (Jay) Carr. They were married on May 16, 1948 in Sturgis, SD. Two sons were born to their union, James in 1949 and David in 1951. Jay was in the Air Force so after starting their married life in Rapid City, they went on to live in Texas and Puerto Rico before returning to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

After Jay's retirement from the service, they moved to Minot where they purchased a laundromat on North Hill before building North Hill Laundromat and Carwash which they operated for over 25 years along with the King Koin Laundromat in Minot as well as having a partnership in a laundromat and carwash in Jamestown, ND. Jay passed away on July 1, 2012.

Alice was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Minot, where she served in various roles throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed Women's Ministries and Bible studies. Alice had a generous spirit supporting her church, missionaries, mission trips and those in need.

Most importantly, Alice was a loving wife and mother who took great pride in her husband, sons, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was supportive in their lives and their accomplishments. She loved playing games and pinochle (with Jay as her partner) with friends. But, her most favorite game was Scrabble. Alice had a sharp memory for words, was very competitive and was usually the top scorer. She was loved and will be missed.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses at Somerset Court for their loving care for Alice. She was happy living there and enjoyed her time with the other residents.

Her loving family includes : Sons, Jim (Carol) Carr, Minot; David Carr, Rapid City, SD; Grandchildren, Heather (Jacob) Waddy, Minot; Adam (Christina) Carr, Minot; and Jonathan (Amy) Carr, Littleton, CO; Great-grandchildren, Allison and John David Lofgren and Ashley, Annie and Emma Carr; Brother Jerry (Molly) Basom, Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada and several nieces and nephews.
