Albert R. Smith, 92, Minot, formerly of Flaxton, ND, died Monday, November 29, 2010, in his home.

Albert was born February 16, 1918 on the family farm, near Flaxton, ND to Christ and Sophie (Hanson) Smith. He was raised and attended school in Flaxton.

Albert was united in marriage to Edith Nelson on October 9, 1940. They operated and made their home on the family farm for 35 years in addition to assisting neighbors with their farming operations.

They moved into Flaxton in 1975, remaining active in the community until moving to Minot in 2000. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Flaxton. Albert's life interests including hunting and fishing, working with wood and caring for animals on his farm. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Edith, Minot; sons, Floyd Smith, Williston, ND, Gordon (Doris), Missouri and Elwood (Susan) Smith, Minot; grandchildren, Michael (Barbara) Smith and Brian Smith; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Dylan and Emma Smith and Anikah and Sebastian Smith in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Amy Erickson.

Funeral service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Flaxton Community Cemetery, Flaxton, ND in the spring.
Visitation: Friday, December 3, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred.
