Alan David Hagenstein, 63, Minot, died on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in a Minot nursing home.
Alan was born on May 20, 1952 in Minot to A.D. "Buster" and S. Grace (Soltis) Hagenstein. He was reared and educated in Minot, played the trumpet in the band, graduated from Minot High School in 1970 and attended Minot State University.
While in high school, Alan was employed by Main Electric. After he completed his education he was employed by Mattson Construction. He moved to Iowa for one year before returning to Minot where he was employed at Ramada Inn and Morris Rod Weeder.
In 1979 Alan became disabled due to complications from diabetes which included blindness. This led to a relationship with a local Lions Club and the receipt of a grant for a talking computer.
Alan was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, ND Association for the Blind and ND Diabetes Association. Alan's hobbies included working on automobiles, in his younger years and working with his talking computer, using the Internet as well as email communications with friends and family. He enjoyed talking on the phone and personal visits and outings with friends and family.
Alan is survived by his siblings: Mary Jo Hagenstein and John Hagenstein both of Minot and nephew, Abram Hagenstein of Bismarck.
Alan was preceded in death by parents, grandparents, sister-in-law Pam Hagenstein, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church or ND Diabetes Association.
