Agnes Katherine Vanerstrom, 98, Velva, formerly of Carpio , died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in a Velva nursing home.

Agnes Magnuson was born September 9, 1910 in Plain Township of Renville County near Carpio to Hjalmar and Elin (Petersdotter) Magnuson. She attended Plain Township School and graduated from Carpio High School in 1929. Agnes played basketball and was a member of the girls state championship team in 1929.

Agnes was united in marriage to Milton Vanerstrom October 31, 1929 in Mohall, ND. Following their marriage, they farmed in White Ash Township and raised small grains and cattle. In 1958, they sold their farm and moved into Carpio.

Beginning in 1970, they spent the fall, winter, and spring months in Tucson, AZ and returned home to Carpio for the summer months. Milton died in 1995.

In November 1996, Agnes moved into Arlyce and Dick Holtz's adult foster care facility and resided there until becoming a resident of the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva in 2008.

Agnes was a member of the Carpio Lutheran Church, participating in its ladies aide and church circle. Prior to her membership, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Carpio, serving on the merger committee that formed Carpio Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the Plain Homemaker's Club for thirty years. While residing in Tucson, she was a member of Dove of Peace Lutheran Church and Road Runners.

Agnes enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and baking. She loved to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in girls basketball.

Agnes loving family includes: Daughter, Vivian (Richard) Burrows, Conifer, CO; Son, Milt (Sharyl) Vanerstrom, Minot, ND; Grandchildren, Peggy (Ron) Kopp, Jane Svare, Sally Vanerstrom, Craig Burrows, and Mark Burrows; Great-Grandchildren , Ryan and Marcia Kopp, Scott and Steven Svare, Tika and Saffron Burrows.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton; grandchild, Scott Vanerstrom; sisters, Edla Olson, Hilda McGwire and Sigma Moe, and brother, Herman Magnuson.

Funeral: Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio, ND;
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Carpio, ND, later in the spring;
Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however family and friends may sign the register book Friday, November 14, 2008, from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
