Agnes (Alexenko) Moseanko , 89, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, North Dakota of natural causes.
Agnes Alexenko was born August 8, 1920, in Killdeer ND to Prince and Mary (Litvin) Alexenko. She attended grade school in McKenzie and Dunn Counties and Killdeer High School. In 1940, Agnes moved to Chicago where she was initially employed as a domestic maid. Later she worked at the Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital.
In 1947, Agnes returned to North Dakota and on July 2, 1948 married John Moseanko. She and John farmed south of Butte up until John's death in 1970. Agnes moved to Jamestown, ND in 1975, where she worked at one of the nursing homes. She returned to Butte in 1978, where she lived until 2009. In April 2009, Agnes moved to the Trinity Nursing Home.
Agnes loved to garden, even when she moved to Butte. She would often make borscht from her garden produce and shared it with family and friends along with her vareniki, homemade pickles, sauerkraut and caramel rolls. Quilting was a lifelong passion of Agnes' too. She and her friends would spend hundreds of hours each year making quilts during their quilting bees for the needy in the community.
Many in the Butte community knew that Agnes loved to walk and she could be seen walking miles out of Butte on many occasions. Agnes was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Butte and held many different church positions over the years.
Agnes is survived by: four children, Perry (Mary) Moseanko, Butte, James (Debbie) Moseanko, Butte, Jeannine (Edward) Phillips, Fresno, CA and Rich (Kathy) Moseanko, La Verne, CA; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren: one sister, Stacia Merekle, Portland, OR; three half-sisters, Rose Eschenko, Grassy Butte, ND, Alma Tachenko, Baker City, OR and Ruth (Fred) Eschenko, Big Timber, MT: two half-brothers, Ray (Deanna) Alexenko, Portland, OR and Lawrence Alexenko, Dickinson, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, two brothers and two half-sisters.
Funeral service:
Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 10 17th Avenue SW, Minot ND, with Pastor Dan Gabbert of Hermosa, SD officiating. A lunch will be served at the church immediately after the service.
Interment:
Butte Cemetery, Butte ND at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation:
Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 2:00-7:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
