Obituary

Agnes S. Bieri, 94, Minot, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Agnes was born April 4, 1914, in Adams County, North Dakota, the daughter of Sivert and Alma Brekke. She was raised and educated in Adams County and graduated from Regent High School in 1932. She attended Dickinson State Teachers College where she received her standard teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room rural school for three years. She then attended Bismarck Business College and worked for the Farmers Home Administration for a short time in Bismarck. She was transferred to Stanley, North Dakota where she worked for the FHA for several years.

Agnes was united in marriage to Charles Bieri on May 29, 1941, in Minot. When Charlie was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, they lived briefly in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, where Charlie was stationed. Their first son, Richard, was born there. When Charlie was assigned to the European Theater, Agnes moved back to Minot. After the war, another son, Ronald, was born.

Agnes worked for several years for Midwest Motor Express and later worked in Civil Service at the Minot Air Force Base until her retirement in 1973. Charlie retired the following year and they made several trips south in the winter before his death in 1982.

She moved from her home to an apartment in Brentmoor in 2001, where she lived until moving to Edgewood Vista in 2007. She moved to Trinity Homes earlier this year.

Agnes was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. Her excellent cooking, bountiful vegetable gardens and beautiful yard were the source of many hours of enjoyment and pride. She did handwork of all sorts, including knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and cross-stitching. She played the piano her entire life, but almost never read music. She played "by ear" and if she heard a song, she could play it on the piano. When she lived at Brentmoor, her daily piano recitals were enjoyed by the other residents.

Her loving family includes : sons, Ron (Jane) Bieri, Minot and Richard Bieri, Fargo; Grandchildren: Scott, Mark, Christopher, and Erin.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, sisters, Carrie Provolt and Ruth Fonteneau and brother, Ernest.
