Adela Alma Amanda (Gliege) Linrud, age 95, of Minot, passed away peacefully at home October 30, surrounded by her daughters. Born May 1, 1919 to Christian and Marie (Schoenwald) Gliege in Newman Township, Ward County (Max, ND), she graduated from Velva High School, and received a business degree from Union Commercial College, Grand Forks, ND. She was employed by Grand Forks Ice & Fuel Co. as bookkeeper-secretary until 1943, when she moved to Chicago to work as a private secretary to the chief engineer at Victor Adding Machine Co., where the Norden Bombsight was assembled during World War II.
Adela returned to North Dakota in 1946 and married Arthur Linrud of Velva on September 25, 1946; they had been married 65 years at the time of his death in 2012. In addition to supporting the farming operation, Adela was a dedicated Velva Public School volunteer and active Oak Valley Lutheran Church member. They moved to Minot in 1996, joining St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she continued volunteer activities, particularly quilting. In addition, she and Art enjoyed world travel with family and friends.
Adela was an artist in so many areas of her life: baking and decorating wedding cakes and other delicacies, quilting, sewing, playing the organ and piano, connecting with family and friends through elegant handwritten letters, compiling a family history and extensive photo albums, rosemaling, and china painting, including commemorative plates marking Velva's Homesteaders Centennial. Her optimism, generous nature, sense of humor, and joyous faith made her beloved by all. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, and will be profoundly missed.
She is survived by daughters Lynette (Thomas) Kyasky of Litchfield, CT; Peggy Linrud of Minneapolis, MN, JoAnn Linrud of Minot, and Donna (Michael) Madsen of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren Aaron Kyasky of Longmont, CO, Zara (Kelsey) Morgan of Charlestown, MA, Adam Kyasky of Cape Porpoise, ME, Theodore (Chloe) Stern of Fort Worth, TX, and Erica Stern of Washington D.C; great-granddaughters Adela Morgan and Cora Morgan of Charlestown, MA; brother Hervin (Fran) Gliege of Federal Way, WA, several nieces and nephews.
Adela was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur, brothers, Alvin, Carl, Rudolph, Herbert, Duane & Lyle; sisters, Selma Polsfut, Ida Gliege, Viola Lee, and Luella Gliege.
