A. Marie Volk, 67, 1712 5th Ave. S.W. - Minot died on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, in a Minot hospital from a brain aneurysm.

Amanda Marie Holme was born on March 13, 1939, in Minot to Inus and Mary (Binnis) Holme. She was raised in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1957. She was once married to Clayton Brekke and they made their home in Velva. Marie married Leonard Volk on March 12, 1980, in Las Vegas NV. They made their home in Minot. Marie returned to school at Minot State University where she obtained her Master's Degree in Special Education in 1981. She established and operated the Tiny Tots Daycare program at the All Saints Episcopal Church from 1981 until 1987 prior to beginning employment with the Minot Public Schools as a special education aide from 2000 until her death. Leonard died on April 17, 2004.

Marie thrived on family and friends. She loved raising her children, gardening, canning, baking and reading. She had a great sense of humor and joked with everyone. Marie loved creating unique craft items that each family member still cherishes. She loved being a grandmother and spending fun loving and quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the best grandmother ever in the eyes of her family. She was a mother, friend and grandmother to all who came into her life. She enjoyed coffee time at the truckstop with her friends. She enjoyed her collection of cows and her creative ability to create special gifts for others. She loved to have pictures of her family all around her. She loved all of her pet companions as well as everyone else's, always having special treats for each. She was a true animal lover at heart. All of us will miss her hugs, kisses, thoughtfulness and supportive unconditional love.

Marie was a member of First Assembly of God.

Her loving family includes: Children: Rick (Renee) Brekke, Robyn (Doris) Brekke and Tammy Brekke all of Minot; Daughter in law: Milinda Brekke of Minot; Grandchildren: Cassandra and Chris Brekke, T.J. and Cody Brekke and Danielle Voeller; Great Grandchildren: Caitlyn and Natalie Bertsch and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard Volk, son Ryan Brekke and sister Bev McCllelan.

Funeral Service: Monday, December 4, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in First Assembly of God
Visitation: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
There will be no reviewal at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
