Lyle Schoenwald

Lyle Schoenwald, 71, Bismarck, formerly of Minot and the Max area died peacefully on April 11, 2018 at the Baptist Health Care Center – Bismarck from complications related to Parkinson’s Disease.

 He was born October 11, 1946 in Trinity Hospital - Minot, to Martin and Verna (Anderson) Schoenwald. He was raised on the family farm in southern Ward County. He attended Iota Flat country school until the 4th grade, then continued at Max High School and graduated from MHS class of ’64. He served in the National Guard and attended State School of Science in Wahpeton for mechanics. He also learned to fly during this time and fostered his affinity for cars. He married Patricia Walz on July 6, 1969. They were married for 17 years and were blessed with 4 children. He farmed the family land, operated Schoenwald Poultry Farm and sold seed for Dahlgren, introducing sunflowers to the area. He was a member at Hope Lutheran Church - rural Sawyer, where he was baptized and confirmed and Our Savior Lutheran Church - Max. He was active in the Max Jaycees, Max Civic Club, Farm Bureau and North Dakota Egg Producers Association. He found success in the car business both in Minot and Arizona including being honored with the Dodge Sales Manager Award in 1991. He moved to Montana in 2002 and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He went back to his farming roots in his work at the Belgrade School District. He took great pride in his green thumb and the success of the teams. He returned to his home state in 2015 and resided at the Baptist Home where he received the best care, compassion and love. He attended the MHS all-school reunion in 2016 with his sister and brother-in-law, and fully enjoyed seeing and talking with all his old friends.  

He is survived by his 3 sons Chad(Shannon) Belgrade, MT. Ryan(Kecia) Minot, and daughters Kayla and Kendra. Brady(Laura) Mayer, AZ. and his daughter Heidi (Jim)Gleason and their sons James and Gus Cody, WY. Sisters: Sharon Strilcov Bismarck, Jan(Don) Meronuck Fargo, Yvonne(Lee) Sorenson Montevideo, MN. Aunt: Irene Schoenwald Minot, ND. Nephews: Wade, Scott, Shawn and Jeremy. Nieces: Vonda, Gina and Katrina(Zelda).

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant twins Gleason and brother-in-law Walter Strilcov.

Celebration of Life Service: 11:00am Friday April 27, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church – Max. Interment at Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery – rural Sawyer.

Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery fund.
