Clarice Weigel

Clarice Caroline Lucille Weigel, aka \"Grandma Gerd\", 91, Minot, formerly of Makoti, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in a Minot Healthcare Center.

Clarice was born August, 19, 1925 in Makoti, North Dakota, the daughter of George and Hulda (Anderson) Tollefson. She was raised near Makoti on the family homestead in Mountrail County. She graduated from Makoti High School in 1942 at the age of 16. She then attended Bismarck Business College for several months and was employed as a bookkeeper for a Bismarck Fur Store.

She married Arthur Weigel on June 20th, 1945 in Elbowoods, North Dakota. They moved to Riverside, CA after Arthur left the service and she was employed as a bookkeeper at Westbrook Department Store. They returned to North Dakota near Makoti in 1947 when they purchased the family farm. There they raised their 4 children, Cheryl, Bonnie, Adele, and Steven. They had livestock, and were durum and barley farmers for many years. They spent summer weekends at Lake Sakakawea, first at a cabin and then in a motorhome, on the barge fishing and always enjoyed spending time with the kids and grandkids. They moved to Minot in 1993 when they retired. Following Arthur’s death, Clarice had her own apartment in Minot. In 2013, she moved to Brookdale Brentmoor Assisted Living, where she made many special friends.

Clarice was a member of the Mountrail Homemakers Club for over 50 years. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed sewing, repairing and embroidering for the whole family. She enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her flowers.  She made the best caramel rolls, buns, and krumkake.  She was a former member of the Wabek Lutheran Church and attended Our Redeemers Lutheran Brethren.  She was an avid reader and very proficient in crossword puzzles.  She loved attending her great grandkids sporting events and listening to the games on the radio.  She also kept up on all current events by e-mailing and facebook on her computer.  She printed out pictures and was proud of each and every one.

Her loving family includes: daughters, Cheryl (Ole) Lynne, Plaza, ND; Bonnie (Roger) Lynne, Minot, ND; Adele (Rudell) Robinson, Great Falls, MT; 6 grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) Rogers, Plaza, ND; Aaron (Heather) Lynne, Bottineau, ND; Brooke (Brent) Olson, Minot, ND; Ginger (Ryan) Bessette, Minot, ND; Holly (Mike) Haman, Shoreline, WA; Derek Long (Trisha Swanson), Seattle, WA; great grandchildren: Amber Rogers, Alicia Rogers, Sage Bessette, Morgan Olson, Ava Rogers, Tessa Olson, Sam Bessette, Eden Olson, Rylie Rogers, Elsa Olson, Sadie Bessette, Baylee Lynne, Carson Lynne; Great great grandchildren:  Blace Olen Fox, Hazel Piper Bhardwaj; brother Pastor Carroll Tollefson, Fargo, ND; several nieces and nephews.
