Harris Kenner

Harris P. Kenner, 85, longtime Minot Attorney, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 in a Minot Hospital after a  battle with cancer.

Harris was born near Brinsmade, North Dakota on June 5, 1927, the son of Harold and Clara (Williamson) Kenner. After graduating from Leeds High School, he entered into active duty service with the U.S. Army, and honorably served his country during World War II. At the end of the War he also attended Naval school in Hawaii.

Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Harris attended UND and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree in law. He moved to Minot in 1952, where he has practiced law for 52 years until retiring in 2004.  He was recognized as a Platinum member of the Bar Association before retiring. Harris was united in marriage to Ardyth Rued on March 12, 1960 at Minot.

Harris was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Minot and served on the Church’s Foundation Board.  He was very active in the Minot Exchange Club, served as VFW Post 753 District Commander, State Republican Party President, Minot Chamber of Commerce, and was a 50-year member of the Minot Elks Club.  Most notably, Harris was well known for being a philanthropist to many people and organizations.

Harris enjoyed time with his large extended family, whether at the cabin on Lake Sakakawea or at his home. He loved entertaining family members and especially enjoyed a good game of pinochle.

Harris is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Ardyth; daughter, Jeanine; granddaughter, Briane Swinnerton, Phoenix, AZ; brother, Harold Kenner, Bismarck; sister, Geraldine Rice, Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

MessageI'm sorry to hear about Mr. Kenner's passing. I worked at the Kenner Law Firm back in 1984-86 while going to high school. He was always so nice to me even though I was just a student working part time. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

MessageDear Ardyth, Jeanne and family, I learned yesterday from my brother Dave that Harris is gone. I remember clearly how my highly my dad regarded him not only as a law partner and friend, but slo like a second son. They shared so many good times together hunting pheasants and chewing over their cases. Harris was first in line when our dad had his life changing stroke. My Aunt Dorothy was often buoyed up by the attention and kindnesses shown to her by both you and Harris. You treated her like family even after Cal was gone. These rememberances can never be forgotten as they were so significant to the Waldron family during good times and bad. A man like Hairris must have many stars in his crown...and we can only hope he is now enjoying well deserved reunions with his old buddies. My deepest sympathy to you and your family on such a great loss. Marilyn

MessageArdyth, Jeanine, and all members of the Kenner family:

Mary Jane joins me in sending our family sympathy and condolences on the passing of Harris. We were pleased to converse with Harris because he was always one who had a positive forward looking view and progressive attitude. His ready concern for others was truly reflected in generous support given to a great many organizations and invididuals. We know his personal and professional involvement and contributions to church and community will be missed.

MessageMy sincere condolences to the family of Harris Kenner. I had the privilege of working as a secretary for him and Mr. Waldron back in the early 70's. I had a lot of respect for Mr. Kenner. He was very patient and taught me well about the legal profession. He was also very good to my family, especially taking care of legal matters for my mom when my dad died in 1995. He will be sorely missed. May God comfort all of you at this difficult time. I will keep you in prayer.
