Arveda Luella Selk, 95, Minot passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 in a Minot hospital.
Arveda was born on June 30, 1917 to Levi and Clara (Anderson) Westgaard in Simcoe, ND where her father owned the general store. Arveda’s mother died when she was two years old. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Seattle WA where she attended Daniel Bagley Elementary School. Arveda returned to North Dakota as a teenager to live with her aunts Lillian Miller and Loretta Anderson and she graduated from Velva High School.
Arveda married Donald Selk on October 12, 1940 in Velva, ND. They made their home in Austin TX while her husband was in the U.S. Army at Camp Swift prior to his deployment to Europe during World War II. They moved to Minot in 1950 where Arveda was a fulltime wife, mother and homemaker. Donald died on October 12, 2001.
Arveda especially enjoyed watching football and baseball with her husband.
Arveda is survived by her loving son Donald and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arveda was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Leroy.
Funeral Service: Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church – Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
