Roland MundRoland Mund, 86, Minot, died on Tuesday, March 04, 2008, in a Minot nursing home. 

Roland was born October 9, 1921, near Fredonia, North Dakota, to Gotthilf and Anna (Munsch) Mund.  He attended grade school at Hoffnung Stalhl District #1 in McIntosh County, ND, and graduated from Ashley High School in 1940. 

Roland attended college in Jamestown, ND, in 1941.  Roland taught rural school in Logan County, near Fredonia until 1942.  He enlisted in the US Military on August 12, 1942, serving in the Army Signal Corps, until his honorable discharge in January 1946.  Roland was united in marriage to Gertrude Irene Krapu at the Lutheran Church in Kulm on June 11, 1944.  

He graduated from Dakota Business College in Fargo in 1947, and gained employment at Whitcomb and Foss Plumbing and Heating as an accountant and in sales until 1948.  Later that year he worked for Standard Oil Company of Fargo as an accountant and senior clerk until moving to Lakota in 1950.  Roland worked in various capacities from 1950-1953 in New Rockford and Cooperstown, ND. 

Roland moved to Mandan, ND, in December 1953, working for Sanitary Plumbing and Heating as an accountant and in sales until moving to H. A. Thompson and Sons Plumbing and Heating in Bismarck, working in the same positions until September 1959.  In 1959, he worked part-time as a self employed accountant and in addition used his accounting skills to work at Mandan Plumbing and Heating until 1967. 

Roland started his own full time public accounting business in Mandan, Mund Accounting, in 1967.  Gertrude died December 23, 1976.  He owned and operated the business until he retired in 1986, with remaining interest in Mund Accounting, PC until 1990, when he retired completely.  In 1991, he moved to Phoenix, AZ, until moving to Minot in 1997. 

Roland was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mandan, where he served as a past treasurer and council member.  He was also involved as a member of the Toastmasters, American Legion, and Veteran of Foreign Wars all of Mandan, ND. 

Roland had many interests in life which included bowling, golfing, and wood carving.  He was a very talented musician, accomplished in piano, guitar, banjo, and organ.  You name it, he played and sang to it too!  He wrote the music for a song his wife, Gertrude had written the words.  Their song placed in the top ten songs to be used as the ND song chosen by Lawrence Welk.   

Roland will be spoken about often and remembered always for his smile, by all who shared in his life. 

Surviving family includes:  Sons: Keith (Donna) Mund, Round Rock, TX and Kenneth (Rhonda) Mund, Watertown, SD; Daughters: Karen (Conrad) Davidson, Minot and Karla (Wayne) Nelson, Grand Forks; Grandchildren: Melissa Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Aili (Derek) Smith, Kena Davidson, Heather Mund, Arren (Tonya) Mund, Kelly (Neire) Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Perry Nelson, Lindsey Mund, Elise Mund, Andrew (Kelli) Jensen, Kristine Jensen, Patricia (Peter) Werner and Michelle Davidson; Great Grandchildren: Nicholas Wing, Monica Wing, Tiffany Zuniga, Jose Zuniga, Kay Nelson, Alexander Jensen, Zachary Jensen, Jacob Werner, and Katherine Werner; Brother: Marvin Mund, Brooks, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Roland was preceded in death by his parents:  Anna and Gotthilf, wife, Gertrude, daughter, Kay Kelly, grandson, Bram Davidson, sisters, Edna Friederich and Esther Cline, brothers, Edwin, Lawrence, and Kenneth Mund.  

Funeral service:  Monday, March 10, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment:
  Mandan City Cemetery, Mandan;
Visitation:
  Sunday, March 9, 2008, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army.
